# 3 Foolproof Ways to Communicate Sim Lab Student Behavior Expectations

Setting the stage for student behavior is critical to a well-run sim lab. More than a few famous sayings apply here... “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”….and, “Many hands make light work.” So, you will thank yourself later for being perfectly clear on what is acceptable and what is not.
1. **List the rules in multiple locations.** Post a list of expectations in a visibly prominent place in the lab. Make sure to add them to the lab syllabus and/or the online course. Finally, have the students sign a behavioral contract that they need to read and comply.
2. **Refresh throughout the semester.** Highlight some of the rules and refresh everyone’s memory every few weeks with different posters (made with still shots from your movie). You can even align these pointers with the objectives of the lab for that week.

Keep your lab neat and tidy! If your students are not made aware of your expectations, it will be impossible to comply with them...
